An update on the first months of 2020

With the summer break coming up, we want to share an update on the various activities carried out during the first half of the year.

Our 2020 began in the heart of Africa, together with our partner in Burundi we carried out a monitoring and co-designing mission at the Ngozi Hospital. Unfortunately, our enthusiasm and future projects, especially related to the improvement and diffusion of the Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) therapy, faced a new challenge. Our return to Italy coincided with the outbreak of the Covid-19 health emergency. An emergency that over time has affected, and continues to affect, the countries and continents in which the Foundation operates.

Given the global health emergency, we have tried to support our partners. This crisis has once again demonstrated the value of international solidarity, a successful tool to overtake common difficulties. International solidarity that we have carried out thanks to the 5x1000 related to 2018. Thanks to all the people that decided to donate the 5x1000 to the Chiesi Foundation, we supported some activities that health care facilities implemented to stem the health emergency and continue to guarantee access to care.

Despite the uncertainty and complexity that characterize this historic moment, our work has not stopped. In the last few months we have strengthened our partnerships within the NEST project. Later this April we have established a new collaboration with Fondazione Acra, an Italian organization that operates in the health field in Burkina Faso. We have organized different working groups, together with neonatologists and experts, to work on effective diffusion of KMC and continuous improvement within the various neonatal care units.

The Foundation will be back in September ready to face, together with our partners, the second half of the year.

Have a good summer!
